Task Force Evacuates 400 Trucks of Waste in Kano Cleanup Operation
The Joint Task Force on Waste Evacuation in the Kano metropolis has successfully removed over 400 trucks of waste within a span of three days, according to the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Environment, Alhaji Aliyu Garo.

During an inspection and monitoring exercise on Friday, Garo revealed that Governor Abba Yusuf had established the task force with the aim of ensuring proper waste disposal and maintaining cleanliness in major roads of Kano.

The task force, chaired by Alhaji Haruna Danzago, has been working diligently to prevent the blockage of water channels and mitigate the risk of flooding, particularly during the rainy season. Garo emphasised the importance of residents regularly desilting their drains to further prevent flooding.

He praised Governor Yusuf for his strong commitment to safeguarding people's lives through the promotion of environmental sanitation.

Garo also commended the governor for introducing innovative measures, such as the mandatory use of baskets by motorists, to contribute to environmental conservation. He called on residents to support the government's efforts in preserving the environment and combating the hazards of climate change.

Expressing gratitude on behalf of the community of Kurna Asabe in the Dala Local Government Area, Usman Nuhu, a community leader, commended Governor Yusuf for initiating the clean-up initiative, emphasising its timeliness.

Nuhu highlighted the serious health risks posed by the accumulation of waste in the metropolis and expressed relief that action was being taken to address the issue.
