Mr Salihu, who was the speaker of the 9th Assembly, was unanimously reelected by the House. In addition, Ojo Oyebode (APC/Oke-Ogun) was elected unopposed as the Deputy Speaker. Razaq Owolabi (Share/Oke-Ode) nominated Mr Oyebode, and Shaba Gideon (APC/Edu) seconded his nomination.
Both Mr Salihu and Mr Oyebode were sworn in by the Clerk of the House, Halimah Kperogi, in the hallowed chamber of the house. Yakubu Salihu, born in Gwanara, Baruten Local Government Area of Kwara, holds a B.Eng in Electrical/Electronic Engineering from the Federal University of Technology, Minna. Ojo Oyebode attended Baptist LGEA Primary School, Ipee, and the Federal Polytechnic, Offa.
The other principal officers of the House are Oba Abdulkadir Magaji (APC/Ilorin Central) as the House Leader, Medinah Abdulrahman (APC/Lanwa Ejidongari) as the Deputy House Leader, Abdulganiyu Gabriel (APC/Ekiti) as the Chief Whip, and Mariam Aladi (APC/Ilorin South) as the Deputy Whip. Out of the 24 members, one was elected under the PDP platform, and five of them are women. Eight of the members sworn in are re-elected, while 16 are new members.
The re-election of Yakubu Salihu as the Speaker of the Kwara House of Assembly signifies the confidence placed in his leadership. With the newly elected members, the 10th Assembly is set to commence its legislative duties in serving the people of Kwara State.
