Benin City to Host WAFU B 2023 Women's Football Championship
Benin City, an ancient city in Nigeria, is gearing up to host this year's CAF Women's Championships League, known as WAFU B 2023, at the refurbished Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium. The prestigious women's football tournament will bring together teams from seven countries in the West African sub-region.

The inauguration of the Local Organising Committee (LOC) took place in the office of the Edo State Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu emphasised the importance of making the tournament a memorable one. He expressed the state government's commitment to hosting an exceptional event that will showcase the best of women's football in the region.

The committee, chaired by Alhaji Yusuf Ali, the Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, along with Vice Chairman Babagana Kelli and other esteemed members, has been entrusted with the responsibility of ensuring a successful tournament. The LOC comprises individuals with extensive experience and expertise in the field of sports, including Mrs Sabina Chikere, Hon. Margaret Icheen, Hajia Amina Daura, Aisha Falode, Ruth David, Dr Emmanuel Igbinosa, Mr Victor Edopkayi, Tony Owen, and Secretary Mrs Modupe Shabi.

The participating countries in WAFU B 2023 include Nigeria, Ghana, Togo, Burkina Faso, Benin Republic, Niger Republic, and Cote d'Ivoire. Over the course of two weeks, from August 18 to September 2, 2023, these teams will compete for the title of the best women's football team in the region.

Alhaji Yusuf Ali, speaking on behalf of the committee, expressed their determination to deliver an outstanding tournament. As the host state and leaders in Nigerian women's football, they are committed to not only meeting but surpassing expectations. They aim to organise a tournament that will be remembered as the best in the history of the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

With the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium as the venue, Benin City is ready to welcome teams, officials, and football enthusiasts from across the region for a thrilling and unforgettable women's football championship. The stage is set for a display of talent, passion, and sportsmanship as these nations compete for glory.
