Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has appointed Andrew Okungbowa, a travel journalist, as the new Chief Press Secretary. The appointment was announced by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Osarodion Ogie, in a statement issued in Lagos on Tuesday.

Mr Okungbowa's appointment is effective immediately. Prior to this role, he served as the President of the Association of Travel and Tourism Writers of Nigeria (ANJET) and worked as the weekend editor with the Daily Telegraph newspapers in Lagos.

He also held the position of Special Adviser, Inter-government Relations to the President of the Federation of Tourism Associations of Nigeria (FTAN), Nkereweum Onung.

This appointment is expected to bring new perspectives and expertise to the Governor's media team, given Mr Okungbowa's experience in the travel and tourism industry, as well as his background as a seasoned journalist.

As the Chief Press Secretary, Mr Okungbowa will be responsible for overseeing the media affairs of the Governor's office and ensuring effective communication between the government and the public.

His appointment comes at a crucial time when effective communication is essential in conveying the policies, achievements, and plans of the Edo State Government to the citizens.

In addition to his professional achievements, Mr Okungbowa's track record in journalism and experience in media relations will undoubtedly play a significant role in shaping the Governor's communication strategies and enhancing the government's interactions with the press and the public.

The new Chief Press Secretary will have the responsibility of ensuring that the government's message reaches the masses accurately and promptly, fostering transparency, and building public trust in the administration.

The media plays a crucial role in democracy by keeping citizens informed about government activities, policies, and decisions. With Mr Okungbowa's appointment, Governor Obaseki is reinforcing his commitment to a transparent and open government that prioritises effective communication with the people of Edo State.

In a world where information travels rapidly, having a competent and experienced professional like Mr Okungbowa as the Chief Press Secretary will be instrumental in managing the government's image and shaping public perception.

As he assumes his new role, Mr Okungbowa is expected to work closely with other media aides and government officials to disseminate accurate and timely information, respond to media inquiries, and engage with the public through various communication channels.

His expertise in travel journalism will also be valuable in promoting Edo State as a top tourism destination, attracting investments, and boosting the state's economy through its tourism sector.

With this appointment, Governor Obaseki has demonstrated his commitment to choosing qualified individuals who can effectively represent the government's vision and communicate its achievements to the people of Edo State and beyond.
