Godwin Emefiele, the suspended governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), has requested a federal capital territory (FCT) court to declare his arrest and imprisonment unconstitutional.

Emefiele was suspended by President Bola Tinubu on June 9 and requested to hand over his responsibilities to Folashodun Adebisi Shonubi, deputy governor, operations directorate.

The next day, the Department of State Services (DSS) reported that Emefiele was being held for "investigative purposes."

Emefiele has been in DSS custody since early June, with the agency insisting on a proper court order to hold him.

Following a judgement by an FCT high court, the DSS said on Thursday that it had accused Emefiele in court.
