The former minister had previously called for a probe to investigate the nature of the interface between JAMB's system/database and the examination centre where Mmesoma allegedly sat for the exam. However, after the report of the panel set up by Governor Charles Soludo to investigate the case was released, Ezekwesili had a change of stance and expressed support for JAMB's actions against Mmesoma.
Ezekwesili stated, "I have just read the report of the Committee set up by Anambra State Government to investigate and report their independent findings on the Mmesoma and JAMB Saga. I am satisfied with the process and findings of their investigation, which provided Mmesoma with a fair hearing to gather all the facts."
She continued, "It was necessary to obtain independent evidence that the result Mmesoma publicly claimed was not only fake but that the forgery was personally orchestrated by her. The Committee's report indicates that syndicates, which are often involved in exam malpractices in Nigeria, were not implicated in Mmesoma's case."
Ezekwesili acknowledged the consequences of Mmesoma's actions and expressed her support for the sanctions imposed by JAMB as a deterrent to those involved in systemic exam malpractice. She recommended sustained counselling for Mmesoma by her family, school, and church to assist her in reflecting on this tragic episode and making a lifelong commitment to embrace values and the rewards of honest effort.
The former minister expressed hope that this case would serve as a lesson for pupils, students, parents, guardians, and the general public, encouraging a collective commitment to uphold exam integrity as a cornerstone of Nigeria's values and reward system for children and youth.
Ezekwesili extended her appreciation to JAMB for their diligent work and encouraged the Registrar and his team to continue their critical service to the country. She emphasised the importance of raising awareness about exam integrity and pledged her support in sustaining these efforts.
The retraction of support by Obiageli Ezekwesili and her commendation of JAMB's handling of the forgery case highlights the significance of maintaining integrity in Nigeria's educational system and serves as a call for collective commitment to uphold exam integrity for the betterment of the country's youth.
