In response, Gani Adams cautioned Ekpa against "repeating the mistake of the 1970s" and urged him to abandon the plan. He emphasized that the sit-at-home protest was unnecessary and counterproductive.
Adams also stressed that the South-West region is not part of the "Biafra Republic" and expressed his disapproval of outsiders imposing their agenda on residents of other regions. He highlighted the need to respect the autonomy and uniqueness of each region, stating that decisions should not be made for one region by individuals from another.
"I can't go to the South East now and say I want to decide for the people of that region. So, it is not possible to import the South-East agenda into Yorubaland. It would be counter-productive. We advise him (Ekpa) to drop that idea," Adams said, emphasizing the importance of recognizing the distinct identities and aspirations of different regions.
He further warned against any attempts to impose the Biafra Republic agenda on the South-West, stating that such actions would be met with resistance. Adams urged Ekpa to exercise caution and learn from the mistakes of the past.
While acknowledging that individuals are entitled to their opinions, Adams reminded Ekpa that the South-West region is not part of the Biafran territory. He emphasized the need for Ekpa to proceed with care and respect the boundaries of each region.
The warning from Gani Adams serves as a reminder of the importance of maintaining harmony and mutual respect between different regions, recognizing their individual aspirations and identities. The call to abandon the sit-at-home protest in Lagos State highlights the need for peaceful coexistence and the avoidance of actions that could lead to division or conflict.
