The Imo State government has dismissed the speculations and insinuations surrounding an alleged attack by unknown gunmen at the State Secretariat on Port Harcourt Road. 

In a press release issued by Oguwike Nwachuku, Chief Press Secretary and Media Adviser to the Imo State Governor, the government clarified that there was no incident involving unknown gunmen and no occurrence of sporadic shooting that caused workers to panic and seek safety.

Nwachuku explained that the situation at the Secretariat was a result of the police pursuing a suspect related to a criminal case. The police had trailed the individual to the Secretariat with the intention of effecting an arrest. During this operation, the police fired warning shots as part of their attempt to apprehend the suspect.

The Chief Press Secretary urged the public to disregard any information linking the incident to unknown gunmen, emphasizing that such reports were unfounded. He assured the citizens of Imo State that the government is fully committed to protecting their lives and property within the confines of the constitution, both in their homes and workplaces.
