A combined team of policemen, hunters, and vigilantes, directed by the state Police Commissioner, Ebunoluwarotimi Adelesi, carried out the successful rescue operation.
The abduction took place on July 13, 2023, when four victims, Dipe Ajayi, Kunle Abolarin, Femi Abolarin, and Femi Ajayi, were kidnapped in Isanlu-Isin.
Acting on the commissioner's directive, the command's anti-kidnapping unit, supported by hunters and vigilantes, swiftly responded to the incident. The abductors were pursued, leading them to abandon the Sienna bus carrying the victims. As a result, Oke Olatunji was rescued by the team.
According to SP Okasanmi Ajayi, the spokesman of the state police command, another victim identified as Femi Ajayi was rescued during a search and rescue operation led by the Police Commissioner. Femi Ajayi sustained a bullet injury and is currently receiving medical attention at a health center in Isanlu-Isin.
The Police Commissioner also held meetings with the traditional ruler of Isanlu-Isin, Oba Olugbenga Oloyede Solomon, as well as hunters, vigilantes, and community leaders. The discussions focused on addressing security issues in the area and implementing strategies to prevent future incidents.
Efforts are ongoing to secure the release of the remaining victims still held captive, according to Okasanmi.
Furthermore, the police command dismissed claims that two suspected kidnappers were killed by a thunder strike in Oro-Ago, Kwara South Senatorial District. It was clarified that the lightning had struck two herders aged 10 and 12 years.
The command urged the people of Kwara state to disregard the misinformation circulating and assured them that the situation was under control.
Four suspects who were arrested near the Oro-Ago forest have been charged to court, the police command announced.
