Umaru Bago
Governor Umaru Bago of Niger State has announced the dissolution of the State Independent Electoral Commission (NSIEC). The decision was conveyed in a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Abubakar Usman, in Minna on Sunday.

According to the statement, the dissolution of NSIEC took effect on May 29. The members of the commission have been instructed to promptly hand over all state government property in their possession to the most senior Director.

This development comes after the Niger State House of Assembly took action on September 27, 2022, by removing Alhaji Baba Aminu from his position as the Chairman of NSIEC. The decision to remove Aminu was based on allegations of misconduct.

The dissolution of NSIEC signifies a significant change in the leadership and administration of electoral processes in Niger State. As a result, it is expected that new appointments and measures will be put in place to ensure the smooth operation of future electoral activities within the state.

Governor Umaru Bago's decision to dissolve the State Independent Electoral Commission underscores the government's commitment to upholding transparency, accountability, and fairness in the electoral process. It also reflects the state's determination to address any issues of misconduct and ensure that electoral activities are conducted in accordance with established guidelines and regulations.
