Nnamdi Kanu Returns to DSS Custody After Medical Exam
Sunday, the leader of the separatist Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, was returned to the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) after being briefly released on Saturday for a medical examination, as reported by the Prime 9ja Online.

The development comes after a Federal High Court in Abuja ordered the DSS on July 20 to grant Kanu access to his personal physicians, dismissing the DSS's objection to the request. Kanu's health had been a matter of concern, with IPOB stating that he is suspected to be suffering from an ear infection and may require surgery.

Ifeanyi Ejiofor, the counsel for the IPOB leader, confirmed that Kanu had access to his personal physicians and was later taken back into custody. In a phone conversation on Sunday, Ejiofor stated, "He has been attended to, and after preliminary examinations, he was taken back." However, the lawyer refrained from providing further details about Kanu's health conditions.

Prior to this, Ejiofor had taken to Twitter on Saturday to announce that Kanu had met with his personal doctors in a hospital in Abuja, outside the facility of the DSS. Describing the medical examination as seamless and productive, Ejiofor assured IPOB supporters that Kanu's health status, welfare, and legal matters would be kept updated.

Nnamdi Kanu has been in detention since 2021 and his health condition has been a matter of concern among his supporters and legal team. The court's order granting access to his personal physicians marks a step towards addressing these concerns. As the situation develops, more updates on Kanu's well-being and legal proceedings are expected to unfold.
