Peace foundation raises alarm over Plateau State's IDP crisis
The Gideon and Funmi Para-Mallam Peace Foundation has raised an alarm over the plight of hundreds of internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Plateau State and called for peace efforts.

According to Reverend Gideon Para-Mallam, President and CEO of the peace foundation, over 6,603 households have been affected by the attacks, resulting in the loss of over 300 lives.

The foundation reported that there are currently over 18,000 IDPs taking refuge in 14 camps hosted by the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN) Local Church Councils. Among the IDPs are 2,081 widows, 6,066 orphans, 1,057 elderly individuals, and 828 teenagers and adult orphans.

The alarming number of lives lost and the growing number of affected households necessitate urgent attention.

The foundation emphasized the need for a concerted effort from the federal government, Plateau State Government, and other stakeholders to bring lasting peace to the state.

Reverend Gideon Para-Mallam stressed the urgency of addressing the sustained violent attacks in Mangu LGA, which alone accounted for over 200 lives lost. He urged all parties to work together to tame the crisis and ensure the safety and well-being of the affected individuals.

The peace foundation's call for peace and intervention comes at a critical time when the people of Plateau State are in dire need of support and assistance.

The federal and state governments, as well as relevant stakeholders, must prioritize the resolution of the conflict and provide necessary resources to alleviate the suffering of the IDPs.

The ongoing violence and displacement of individuals have caused immense hardship and trauma, requiring immediate action to restore peace and security.

Efforts to bring lasting peace to Plateau State should include not only addressing the immediate security concerns but also addressing the root causes of the conflicts.

It is essential to engage in dialogue, promote reconciliation, and foster a sense of unity among diverse ethnic and religious groups in the state.

By working together and committing to peaceful coexistence, Plateau State can overcome these challenges and create an environment where all its residents can live in peace and harmony.

The Gideon and Funmi Para-Mallam Peace Foundation's plea serves as a reminder of the urgent need for peace-building initiatives in Plateau State. The well-being and safety of the affected IDPs should be the priority for all stakeholders involved.

The foundation's call for collaboration and concerted efforts is a crucial step towards finding a lasting solution to the crisis and providing the necessary support for the affected individuals and communities.

It is hoped that with the collective commitment and action, peace can be restored, and the lives of the people in Plateau State can be rebuilt.
