JAMB's spokesman, Dr Fabian Benjamin, had previously stated that their records showed Mmesoma sent multiple messages to the board's automated telecoms system, including results displaying an aggregate score of 362. However, the board subsequently banned her for three years, sparking mixed reactions.
During an appearance on Channels Television's Sunrise Daily alongside her father, Mmesoma maintained that she should not be held responsible for the controversy surrounding her result. She claimed she had sent an SMS to JAMB through its support system but received no response. Mmesoma stated, "That's the only SMS I sent there. They didn't reply. If they check their JAMB Support System, they would see that I sent a text message. They didn't reply. After all was said and done, I now saw that I got 249."
In response to the allegations, JAMB's Benjamin described the result displayed by Mmesoma as obsolete. He reassured Nigerians that their system remained untampered with and uncompromised. According to Benjamin, Mmesoma had falsified a copy of a result slip belonging to a candidate named 'Asimiyu Mariam Omobolanle,' who had scored 138 in the UTME conducted in 2021. Benjamin also pointed out that Mmesoma inadvertently revealed the rightful owner of the result she was claiming when she mentioned the QR code on the result slip.
Furthermore, the JAMB spokesman commented on a video released by Mmesoma in her defence, asserting that someone was coaching her on what to say. He urged the public to examine the video closely, implying that Mmesoma's statement might have been influenced.
The controversy surrounding Mmesoma's UTME result has sparked intense debates and raised questions about the authenticity of her claim. As investigations continue, stakeholders await further clarifications from both Mmesoma and the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board to unravel the truth behind the alleged forgery and the subsequent ban.
