A yet-to-be-identified man met a tragic fate when he was electrocuted while attempting to steal transformer cables at the Government Secondary School Owerri, Imo State. The incident took place around 1 am on Wednesday morning.

According to Mr. Iwu, the school's security personnel, the man might have jumped into the school fence during the late hours of the night to gain access to the transformer donated to the school by the 1970 class of the Old Boys Association.

It is believed that the incident coincided with the restoration of power by the electricity company at approximately 1 am on the same day.

The lifeless body of the man was discovered inside the transformer's fenced area, which was protected with barbed wires, located on the left side of the school entrance gate during the morning.

Reacting to the incident, Mr. Chukwujindu Anyikwa, the Principal of the school and also an Old Boy, immediately reported the incident to the Secondary Education Management Board (SEMB) and the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC). Representatives from both organizations later visited the scene of the tragedy.

Upon advice, the school authorities contacted Henry Okoye, the Police Spokesman, who directed them to the DPO Shell Camp Police Station.

They made an entry at the Police Station and were further instructed to proceed to the Federal University Teaching Hospital Owerri mortuary with a Police report. Eventually, the mortuary attendants arrived with an ambulance and removed the deceased's body.

Henry Okoye, the PPRO of Imo State Command, confirmed the incident and urged the school authorities to consider engaging additional security personnel, particularly during nighttime, to prevent such occurrences in the future.
