UTME Result: Mmesoma Faces Backlash, Top Scorer Bags Gifts
Mmesoma Ejikeme, the student involved in the UTME result manipulation controversy, is facing criticism on social media as supporters backtrack on their previous stance. The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) had previously clarified that Mmesoma's claimed score of 362 was false and that she had actually scored 249. Governor Charles Soludo of Anambra had set up a committee to investigate the issue, and the panel's report indicted Mmesoma, recommending that she apologise to JAMB.

According to the panel's findings, Mmesoma admitted to manipulating the results herself using her phone. The report revealed that she had confessed in the presence of her principal and the Education Secretary of the Anglican Communion. Mmesoma also admitted to printing the manipulated results at a cybercafe. This revelation has led to disappointment among those who had previously supported her.

Former Minister of Education, Dr Oby Ezekwesili, who had called for an independent technology investigation by JAMB, expressed her satisfaction with the committee's investigation and its findings. She emphasised the need for independent evidence to prove that Mmesoma had forged her result. Disappointed supporters on social media have apologised for giving Mmesoma the benefit of the doubt, acknowledging that she had disgraced those who had spoken in her favour.

While some individuals believe that Mmesoma should undergo a psychological evaluation and apologise to JAMB, others feel that she has not demonstrated sufficient remorse for her actions. They emphasise the gravity of her crime and the need for her to face the consequences. Mmesoma's forgery has brought embarrassment to her school and state, and she is expected to face disciplinary measures for her actions.

In contrast, Kamsiyochukwu Umeh, who was confirmed by JAMB as the best candidate in the UTME, has received a cash gift of N2.5 million from Dr Eric Umeofia, the CEO and President of Erisco Foods Limited. Umeh, a student at Deeper Life High School in Ogun State, achieved the highest cumulative score of 360 in the 2023 UTME.
