Kano State Empowers 250 Cooperative Groups for Growth
The Kano State Government has unveiled its plan to activate and support 250 cooperative groups across the state as part of its empowerment strategy.

Alhaji Jamilu Abbas-Kiru, the newly appointed Special Adviser on Cooperative Groups to Governor Kabiru Yusuf, revealed this development to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kano on Sunday.

Governor Abba Yusuf has laid out a comprehensive socio-economic development plan for the state, aiming to stimulate and enhance commerce, industrialization, energy, security, and climate change initiatives.

The administration is also committed to delivering quality and accessible healthcare services, functional education, rural development, and improved water supply.

The empowerment strategy will encompass various cooperative societies that span different trades, including agriculture, commerce, handicrafts, artisans, and transportation. These groups will be carefully selected, trained, and empowered across the state.

Alhaji Jamilu Abbas-Kiru highlighted the significance of this empowerment strategy in light of the ongoing digitalization of global economic activities.

He noted that a vast majority of people in rural areas lack adequate knowledge and awareness of cooperativism, and they seldom belong to or establish cooperative societies.

Additionally, their understanding of modern Information Communication Technology (ICT) and its impact on socio-economic activities is limited.

In response to these challenges, the government aims to establish and empower cooperative groups while providing them with access to finance and banking institutions. This will enable the members to access intervention funds and facilitate smoother operations for their businesses.

The initiative seeks to bridge the gap and enhance economic opportunities for individuals in various sectors. Through this approach, the Kano State Government aims to foster inclusive and sustainable economic growth, creating a more prosperous future for its citizens.
