Mr. Bolaji Oreagba, the General Manager of LASTMA, expressed concern about the negative portrayal of the institution in movies and skits and announced that stringent measures would be taken against offenders.
Mr. Oreagba emphasised that the demeaning manner in which LASTMA has been depicted in these productions is unacceptable.
He highlighted the need for a more responsible and accurate representation of the institution. To this end, he pointed out that unauthorized use of LASTMA uniforms and kits for portrayals would be considered a criminal offense under Section 79 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.
In a statement, Mr. Oreagba asserted, “Film or skit makers who portray as LASTMA Officers without applying for, and being duly issued a permit letter for such portrayals, should desist with immediate effect or face the full wrath of the Law."
He further urged relevant industry bodies, such as the National Association of Nigeria Theatre Arts Practitioners (NANTA), to take necessary actions in ensuring that their members adhere to these regulations.
Mr. Oreagba concluded by warning that any individual caught using LASTMA uniforms without proper approval would be subject to legal prosecution.
This move by LASTMA is aimed at safeguarding the integrity of the institution and ensuring that its image is not misrepresented or tarnished by inaccurate portrayals in films and skits. It underscores the importance of responsible and ethical representation of public institutions in media productions.
