Governor Obaseki, speaking to reporters after the service, fondly remembered Mrs. Alimikhena as a quiet, committed, and prayerful woman who was dedicated to the development of her community and the state.
He praised her for her warm hospitality, recalling the delicious meals she prepared for him during his 2016 campaign and subsequent interactions.
"She was very quiet, committed, and a prayerful lady who always saw progress and always prayed for her husband, the State, and all those who interacted with her in her lifetime.
We would miss her but we thank God for her life and what she represented and pray for God to rest her soul in peace," Governor Obaseki remarked.
The governor also expressed sympathy for Senator Francis Alimikhena, acknowledging the challenges he faced during his wife's illness and emphasising the need for prayers and support during this difficult time.
During the funeral mass, Bishop Gabriel Dunia of the Auchi Diocese of the Catholic Church of Nigeria delivered a sermon, encouraging mothers to emulate the late Mrs. Alimikhena's fervent prayer life and her commitment to guiding her family.
He emphasised the role of mothers in praying for their families and fostering the development of good leaders who will serve the people honestly in governance.
John Alimikhena, the deceased's son, expressed gratitude to Governor Obaseki, his entourage, and all the guests for their presence and support during this challenging time for the family.
