The inquest into the death of late Nigerian musician Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, began on Friday at the Magistrate court in Ikorodu, Lagos.

Journalists were prohibited from entering the courtroom, and no rationale was offered for this change.

Prime9jaOnline gathered that, the coroner, Magistrate Taofikat Adedayo Shotobi, told parties in the inquest that the day's proceedings were to explore the modalities for hearing evidence.

The evidence will be heard on Friday, October 13.

Mrs Funmi Falana, who represented Mohbad's family at the inquest alongside other lawyers, told reporters following the hearings that the legal team would bring witnesses to the inquest to guarantee that justice is done.

In a letter dated September 18th, 2023, the law company of Falana & Falana Chamber requested that the Chief Coroner of the High Court of Lagos State, Justice Mojisola Dada, investigate the facts surrounding the late Mohbad's "very tragic" death under "mysterious" circumstances.

In response to the firm's letter, the coroner, Magistrate Shotobi, stated that she had received directives from the Chief Coroner of Lagos State, Hon. Justice Mojisola Dada, to convene an inquest in accordance with Sections 14 and 15 of the CORONER'S SYSTEM LAW of Lagos State, Cap C15, Laws of Lagos State 2015.

Mohbad, the late Afrobeats singer, died two weeks ago at the age of 27.
