The suspension was officially declared during a news conference held in Maiduguri on Sunday by Bashir Abbas, the auditor general of the CJTF.
The decision to suspend Mr Ja'afar was made after a series of meetings and deliberations involving the leadership and members of the CJTF. Citing Article 6 Rule 2 (vi) of the CJTF Constitution, Abbas explained that the suspension was unanimously agreed upon due to Mr Ja'afar's alleged misappropriation of Hilux vehicles provided by the Borno government for the CJTF's operational needs. Furthermore, it was reported that he had diverted two other Hilux vehicles donated to the organization by NNPCL for operational purposes.
To fill the void left by Mr Ja'afar's suspension, the CJTF leadership appointed Baba Shehu Abdulganiyu as the acting president of the organization. Baba Shehu Abdulganiyu also serves as the commander of Sector 4 CJTF. Additionally, the organization announced the reinstatement of several individuals who had been suspended in 2022, including Babakura Mustapha, Mr. Abba Aji Kalli, Abba Tijjani Sadiq, and Barr. Jibrin Tela Gunda.
In response to his suspension, Mr Ja'afar disputed the legitimacy of the decision, arguing that a suspension by just five individuals out of the 27-member leadership could not be considered valid. He also refuted the allegations of diverting 13 Toyota Hilux vehicles donated by the Borno government, asserting that the vehicles were sold to all members as scraps and that he had personally purchased some of them.
