The Federal Government has announced that December 25th, 26th and January 1st will be observed as public holidays in celebration of Christmas and New Year's Day.
This announcement was made yesterday in Abuja by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.
In a statement signed by Dr Peter Egbodo, the Director overseeing the office of the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Interior, the minister extended his warm wishes to Christians and all Nigerians, both at home and abroad, on the occasion of Christmas and New Year celebrations.
Dr. Tunji-Ojo encouraged Christians to follow the example of Jesus Christ in His practice and teachings of humility, service, compassion, patience, peace and righteousness that His birth represents.
He stated that peace and security are essential conditions for economic development and prosperity. The minister assured that the “federal government, under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCFR), will continue to implement effective measures for the security of lives and property.”
He further urged Nigerians to be vigilant about their security and to report any suspicious persons or activities to the nearest security agencies.
He reiterated that the Yuletide season calls for discipline to protect the lives and property of everyone in their respective communities and the nation as a whole.
Dr. Tunji-Ojo also advised all citizens to remain focused on the fact that the year 2024 will be a better year with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the President.
The minister wished all Nigerians, especially Christians, a joyful Christmas, a peaceful and prosperous New Year celebration.
