Olamide Crowned as Spotify's Top Street Pop Artiste

In a recent development, Spotify has bestowed the title of the most impactful street pop artiste of his era upon the renowned Nigerian rapper, music artist, and record executive, Olamide Adedeji, widely known as "Olamide".

The announcement was made public on Thursday in Lagos by Spotify's Editor for West Africa, Benewaah Boateng. Boateng highlighted the remarkable growth of the subgenre "Street Pop" within the Nigerian music scene, pointing out its steady climb into mainstream music.

Boateng praised Olamide's exceptional contributions to this growth, underlining his crucial part in propelling Street Pop to worldwide recognition as a distinct music genre.

"Olamide" is hailed as the most impactful street pop artist of his era, and he has been consistently praised for his role in propelling street pop to mainstream recognition as a unique music genre.

Ever since the release of his hit single, 'Eni Duro,' he has been a persistent cultural influence, popularising dance styles like 'Shakiti Bobo' and street lingos such as 'Baddo Sneh' and 'Pepper Dem.'

Through his record label YBNL, Olamide has also played a crucial role in discovering and nurturing Nigeria's most promising street pop talents.

The impact of Street Pop on the Nigerian music landscape in 2023 is clearly and undeniably significant.

"This is just the beginning of Street Pop going mainstream and we cannot wait to see how it continues to grow," she said.
