Senate President Swears in Simon Lalong as Plateau South Senator

In a significant political development, former Plateau state governor and erstwhile minister of labour and employment, Simon Lalong, was sworn in as the senator representing Plateau South.

The swearing-in ceremony, which took place on Wednesday, December 20, was presided over by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

The Court of Appeal had previously affirmed Lalong’s election, declaring him the duly elected representative for the Plateau South senatorial district. This legal validation paved the way for his official induction into the Senate.

Prior to his swearing-in, Lalong had formally stepped down from his ministerial role in the Federal Executive Council on Tuesday, December 19. This resignation was a necessary step in preparation for his new legislative duties.

The oath of office and oath of allegiance were administered to Lalong by the Clerk to the Senate, Chinedu Akubueze, under the directives of the Senate President. This marked the official commencement of Lalong’s tenure as a senator, a role in which he is expected to represent the interests of the Plateau South constituency at the national level.
