The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Idiroko Unit Command has issued a warning to motorists traversing the Idiroko area to avoid wrongful overtaking to prevent vehicular accidents during the festive season.
The advice was given by Mr Charles Daramola, the Idiroko Unit Commander of the FRSC, on Monday in Ogun State.
Daramola urged motorists to comply with the traffic rules and regulations that govern the road to reduce the occurrence of accidents during the yuletide. He stated that if motorists refrained from unnecessary overtaking and adhered to traffic rules and regulations, it would contribute to reducing road accidents.
He said, "We are urging motorists to desist from dangerous driving and driving under the influence of alcohol to prevent unnecessary loss of lives during the festive period. Also, the FRSC enjoined them to refrain from using mobile phones while driving and reduce their speed because only the living can celebrate."
Daramola further explained that the so-called 'ember months' are not inherently dangerous, but it is human error that leads to road accidents during the festive season. He advised motorists against overloading to prevent avoidable road traffic accidents.
In addition, Daramola encouraged truck owners to install speed limit devices and avoid using expired tyres to prevent loss of lives.
