The Comptroller General of the State has announced that the Ecuadorian authorities will employ artificial intelligence (AI) to tackle corruption in government entities.
“We are planning to use AI to optimise the resources when analysing income declarations of state officials,” his office quoted Ecuadorian Comptroller General Mauricio Torres as saying.
Ecuador was plunged into violent turmoil last week, following the escape of the Los Choneros gang leader, Jose Adolfo Macias Villamar, also known as Fito, who is regarded as the country's most notorious criminal.
Another prison break saw Fabricio Colon Pico, the head of Ecuador's second-biggest criminal gang, Los Lobos, flee from custody.
On Jan. 8, Ecuadorian President Daniel Noboa imposed a 60-day state of emergency in Ecuador as several cities and prisons witnessed hostage-taking incidents.
Subsequently, riots erupted in various cities — on the night of Jan. 9, criminals set fire to cars and buses, using homemade explosive devices.
Some police officers were abducted.
On Jan. 9, Noboa declared a state of internal armed conflict and commanded Ecuador’s army to eliminate the criminal groups operating in the country.
