The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has reported the devastation of about 50 semi-detached bungalows by fire in Rigasa, Kaduna State.
The fire that ravaged a section of Kaduna Central Market also destroyed the structures.
NEMA staff, led by Abbas Hamisu of the Relief and Rehabilitation Unit, with assistance from KADSEMA, Red Cross and Federal Fire Service, carried out an evaluation of the fire calamity at the market and some housing units belonging to the Kaduna State Government.
Hamisu stated in a post on the agency’s Facebook page that it was found that hundreds of stalls/shops were ruined in the two sections of the market, adding that details of the list of victims and losses are still being gathered.
“However, about 50 semi-detached bungalows were burnt in the Rigasa Housing estate as observed by the joint team. The houses are yet to be occupied at this point,” he said.
The cause of the fire is still unknown but it is suspected that it could have been triggered by bush burning.
