INEC announces Surulere bye-election, releases timetable

The Lagos State branch of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has displayed the notice of the Surulere Federal Constituency I bye-election as mandated by law.

The INEC Public Affairs Officer in Lagos State, Mrs Adenike Oriowo, informed journalists on Friday that the notice was put up on Thursday at the commission’s office in Sabo-Yaba for public inspection.

“She also said that the notice was displayed at the commission’s Surulere Local Government Area Office,” she added.

She said that INEC had started the execution of activities and the schedule for the elections.

The spokesperson also said that INEC’s arrangements were in full swing to ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations for the poll.

She stated that the commission would deliver a reliable bye-election in the constituency.

Prime 9ja Online reminds that INEC had scheduled Feb. 3, 2024, for the conduct of re-runs and by-elections in nine states, including Surulere Federal Constituency in Lagos State.

According to the schedule for the poll, the conduct of party primary elections including resolution of disputes that may occur from the primary elections has been set to hold between Jan. 5 and Jan. 9.

The public campaigns by political parties will begin on Jan. 18 and end on Feb. 1.

The Surulere seat became empty due to the resignation of the former holder, Rep. Femi Gbajabiamila, who after winning, was appointed by President Bola Tinubu as his Chief of Staff.
