Governor Eno Pledges to Lower Food Prices in Akwa Ibom

In a recent development, Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has called for patience from the people of the state as he implements measures aimed at reducing the prices of staple foods.

This appeal was made during a session with Government House correspondents in Uyo, where the governor addressed questions regarding a bill currently under consideration in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly.

The bill in question seeks to establish the State Bulk Purchasing Agency, an initiative designed to ensure that staple food items are affordable for the populace. A statement issued by Ekerete Udoh, the Chief Press Secretary, shed light on the governor's plans.

Governor Eno was quoted in the statement as saying, “We will buy the food items in bulk and ensure that they are made available to our people at relatively lower prices. The process will be transparent."

He expressed his gratitude to the House of Assembly for their swift action on the bill and reassured the people of his commitment to their welfare. He said, “I want to assure our people that we feel their pain and are working hard to ensure that food security for our people is guaranteed."

The governor, who hails from the same stock as the people he governs, empathised with their plight and asked for their patience while the House of Assembly works to pass the bill. He promised to sign it into law immediately upon its passage.

This move by Governor Eno underscores his commitment to addressing the economic challenges faced by his constituents, particularly in relation to the cost of staple foods.
