In a significant development, the Rivers State Police Command has exhumed the body of notorious cultist, Gift Okpara, popularly known as 2 Baba.
Okpara was the prime suspect in the murder of former Divisional Police Officer, Bako Angbashim, in Odiemudie community, Ahoada East Local Government Area of the state in September last year.
This development comes barely a week after the police reported that the feared leader of the Iceland cult was killed during a joint security raid in the Idu-Ekpeye community in Ahoada East. However, some of his loyalists managed to snatch his body and escape with it.
A police source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, revealed that operatives swooped on some loyalists of the deceased cult leader, who led them into a deep forest where his remains were buried. The source stated, “The operation took place at midnight of Thursday and his body was exhumed and taken to town.”
A trending video seen by our correspondent showed the moment when operatives, holding torchlights, were seen digging the ground and trying to exhume the decomposing corpse.
Meanwhile, it has been gathered that the state police command has scheduled a media briefing for 11am today. During this briefing, details of the recovery of the late 2 Baba’s body are expected to be made known to journalists.
