In a shocking incident that occurred yesterday, an unidentified woman caused a stir at a market on Bishop Okoye Street in Mile 3, Diobu, Port Harcourt, Rivers State. She brought a five-year-old boy, whom she claimed was her child, and attempted to put him up for sale.
The incident reportedly took place at about 3:40 p.m., drawing the attention of customers and traders who surrounded the woman in disbelief.
Mr Nelson Tasie, the former Vice Chairman of the Goat Meat Sellers Association, Bishop Okoye branch, who reportedly witnessed the scene, told a source that the woman claimed life had become very difficult for her. She said she could no longer take care of herself and the child, which was why she decided to sell him.
Given the urgency of the situation, Mr Tasie advised that the woman and the child should be taken to the Nkpolu Police Division, Mile 3 Diobu, so that the police could intervene in the matter. He disclosed that concerned traders and customers were on their way with the woman and her child to the police station when he left the scene.
As of the time of reporting, the police had yet to respond officially to the incident. The incident has left many in shock, highlighting the desperate measures some individuals are resorting to in the face of hardship.
