Edo Queens Urged to Reignite Winning Mentality

The Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, Olympian Yusuf Alli, has reaffirmed the state government's commitment to making Edo Queens Football Club one of the best on the continent. Speaking to the players during a training session on Tuesday, the former Team Nigeria Captain urged the club to remain focused and reignite the winning mentality that Edo Queens is known for.

Despite their current position on the log, Yusuf expressed confidence in the team's ability to make it to the NWFL Super 6. He said, “I’m very happy to be in your training ground this morning. I told your coach that I will come and watch you girls, now am here. I must tell you that we are not happy with the way we are going, we must as a matter of fact redirect our attention and be focussed."

He further stated, “We must reignite that winning mentality that we are known for. We have just five games to go, right, we want to see ourselves swimming in victory." Yusuf emphasised that current performance, rather than past victories, is what matters, and encouraged the team to prove that they are potential NWFL champions.

Yusuf commended the team for their resilience and determination in the past, but stressed that there is still a lot to play for. He said, “I’m elated to inform you that the governor is totally committed to ensuring that Edo State regain her premier position in Nigerian Sports. The government is doing so much, so the only way to reciprocate his kind gesture is to win laurels for him."

He also assured the players of the management's commitment to their welfare and encouraged them to approach their coaches whenever they have any issues. He announced that henceforth, their away winning bonuses will be doubled, and the money will be paid by him, Yusuf Alli.

In his concluding remarks, Yusuf urged the players to make themselves, the Edo State Government, and their families proud. His words serve as a rallying call for the team as they prepare for their upcoming games.
