The Edo State Police Command has recently announced that it received applications from 643 individuals seeking to join the Nigerian Police Force. This information was made public by the state's Commissioner of Police, Funsho Adegboye, during a press briefing at the aptitude test centres in Benin city.
Adegboye took the opportunity to advise the applicants against any form of financial inducement to secure their employment. He said, “I am bringing the message of the Inspector General of Police, IG Kayode Egbetokun, that you don’t have to give any body money to join the police."
He further stressed that the recruitment process into the police force is transparent and open to all eligible candidates. Once an applicant passes the examination, they are deemed qualified to join the police force. This sentiment was echoed by the chairman of the Police Service Commission, IG Solomon Arase (rtd), who reiterated that police recruitment is an open affair and not for sale.
In a reassuring statement, the Commissioner of Police added that a large majority, about 90 per cent, of the applicants are qualified and fit to join the Police. He gave assurances that those who successfully pass the aptitude and medical tests will be recruited into the force. This development marks a significant milestone in the efforts to bolster the strength and capacity of the Nigerian Police Force in Edo State.
