One hundred and three Nigerians have arrived in Abuja after being deported from Turkey for immigration-related offenses. The Federal Government, through the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI), received the deportees on Friday.
Alhaji Tijani Ahmed, the NCFRMI Federal Commissioner, disclosed this information during the profiling process for the returnees. He explained, through his representative Amb. Catherine Udida, Director of Migration Affairs, that the commission initially anticipated 110 deportees but received 103, all men.
Ahmed highlighted the commission's commitment to supporting the returnees. "Some of them have been detained in deportation camps for months," he said. "Now that they are back in Nigeria, we aim to investigate the claims they've made during profiling."
He added, "We will examine their profiling forms, particularly concerning allegations of passport seizure. We will pursue this matter with the Turkish authorities, as these passports remain the property of the Federal Republic of Nigeria."
The NCFRMI, according to Ahmed, holds the mandate for assisting all returnees, regardless of their circumstances. "We also have a program that provides training and facilitates their reintegration back into society," he stated.
