The Edo State Special Task Force on Anti-Cultism has demonstrated unwavering commitment to ridding the state of cultism since its inauguration. Initially focusing on education and persuasion, the task force engaged with communities and stakeholders to dissuade youth from joining cults.
Beyond persuasion, the task force has made significant arrests of key cult members across the state. Through intelligence gathering, officials arrested three suspected cultists within the Auchi Polytechnic community and apprehended two more at a hotel in Upper Sakponba, Benin City.
Edo State Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Chris Nehikhare, briefed journalists on the progress, stating, "A total of 11 suspects are currently in custody, and investigations are ongoing." He emphasized the state government's commitment to restoring peace and security under Governor Godwin Obaseki's leadership.
The newly enacted Anti-Cultism Law will be enforced to its fullest extent, with the task force empowered to crush all cult-related activities. The Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Oluwole Iyamu, warned that suspects will face the full wrath of the law if a prima facie case is established, promising vigorous prosecution.
