The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Osun state has sounded the alarm over a surge in child kidnapping cases, urging parents to be vigilant and ensure their children's safety. Commandant Michael Adaralewa expressed concern over the three cases reported in August, with some suspects already apprehended.
Adaralewa highlighted the vulnerability of children during the school holidays, emphasizing the need for parental vigilance. He recounted the case of a one-year-old boy kidnapped in Osunjela, where a trusted family friend's introduction led to the child's abduction.
Another case involved a three-year-old child who went missing in Osogbo, with the child's whereabouts still unknown. A five-month-old baby was also kidnapped in Agbeye town, taken while the mother was gathering firewood.
Adaralewa assured the public that the NSCDC is working tirelessly with other agencies to apprehend the perpetrators. He also advised employers to conduct thorough background checks on prospective workers to prevent such incidents.
