The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has initiated discussions with key stakeholders in the petroleum industry to address the public's burden following the petrol price increase.
Secretary David Bariereka revealed this in an interview, stating that the student body aims to explore solutions through engagement with Aliko Dangote, oil marketers, and the Minister of State for Petroleum.
NANS had previously planned a nationwide protest for September 15, 2024, but has now suspended the action to pursue dialogue. Senate President Henry Okuomo emphasized the union's capability to hold the government accountable, citing the current hardship situation and the impact of fuel price increases on students.
However, in a recent development, Bariereka urged students to discountenance calls for a national protest, as the association is not yet mobilizing for action. He acknowledged the growing hardships and emphasized NANS' commitment to exhausting all avenues of negotiation before resorting to protests.
