The Adamawa State Police Command has launched a manhunt for individuals responsible for the killing of a 35-year-old Point of Sale (POS) operator, Abbas Yuguda, in Mayo-Belwa Local Government Area.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Nguroje, made this known in a statement issued on Monday in Yola.

According to Nguroje, the attack occurred on 22nd March 2025, when Yuguda was ambushed while returning home from work. He explained that a group of armed individuals assaulted the victim, inflicting severe head injuries before leaving him unconscious in a pool of blood.

"The command’s operatives immediately rushed the victim to Cottage Hospital, Mayo-Belwa, but he died while receiving treatment," Nguroje stated.

In the aftermath of the killing, some enraged residents pursued a man identified as Umar, whom they suspected of involvement in the crime. The suspect was subjected to mob violence but was rescued by the police and taken to a hospital for medical attention.

Nguroje confirmed that Umar was now assisting law enforcement officers with their investigation.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Dankombo Morris, strongly condemned the attack and directed that a thorough inquiry be conducted to ensure that those responsible are apprehended and prosecuted.

The police commissioner also cautioned residents against taking the law into their own hands and urged them to allow the legal process to take its course.

He called on members of the public to stay alert and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
