Massacre: Tinubu postpones Kaduna visit to address Benue violence

President Bola Tinubu has rescheduled his official visit to Kaduna State and will instead travel to Benue State on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, as he strives to foster peace and address ongoing violence in the region.

This was made known in a statement by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on Monday.

“The President’s visit is aimed at assessing the situation on the ground following repeated attacks that have resulted in the loss of lives and significant destruction of property,” Onanuga said.

President Tinubu was initially scheduled to be in Kaduna on Wednesday to commission state government projects, but that visit has been deferred to Thursday, June 19, 2025.

During his trip, the President is expected to meet with stakeholders, including traditional rulers, political, religious, community, and youth leaders, in a bid to foster dialogue and enable a sustainable resolution to the conflict.

“To aid in the preparation for the visit, President Tinubu has already dispatched the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the Inspector General of Police, heads of intelligence agencies, and the Chairmen of the Senate and House Defence Committees to Benue State,” the statement added.

The President is scheduled to hold a town hall meeting with stakeholders during his visit.

President Tinubu previously condemned the ongoing violence in Benue and called for peace, reconciliation, and unity among all groups in the state. He also extended his condolences to the families of victims and those affected by the conflict.
