Taraba Student Found Dead in Boyfriend’s Home

A first-year Mass Communication student at Taraba State University, Jalingo, lay dead on Friday inside her boyfriend’s flat, police have confirmed. Investigators say they discovered her body in the afternoon amid signs of recent drinking.

The victim, Comfort Jimtop, hailed from Takum Local Government Area and enrolled at the university earlier this year. Neighbours reported seeing empty alcohol bottles strewn beside her on the bed when the body was found.

The incident unfolded in a compound housing about fifteen people, including the man identified as Emmanuel Shata. Sources who asked not to be named say all tenants vacated the premises as soon as the discovery became public.

ASP Leshen James, the Police Public Relations Officer for Taraba State, verified the report and outlined the next steps. “When our men arrived at the residence, nobody was found. The boyfriend and other tenants had abandoned the house,” James told journalists.

He added that officers have launched a full inquiry into the circumstances surrounding Comfort’s death. “We are working hard to locate the boyfriend and the fleeing tenants. A thorough investigation will be carried out to determine what happened,” James added.

Detectives have begun canvassing the area for witnesses and are examining any CCTV footage available in the neighbourhood. They also seek medical reports to establish the precise cause of death.

Residents with information are urged to contact the Taraba State Police Command immediately. Authorities stress that cooperation from the public will prove vital in bringing those responsible to justice and delivering answers to Comfort’s family.
