The Lagos State Police Command has announced the death of Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Matilda Ngbaronye, who served as the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Festac Division.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the Command’s spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed that Ngbaronye passed away on Friday, October 24, 2025, following a surgical procedure at Mayriamville Medical Centre, Bode Thomas, Surulere, Lagos.

Adebisi described her passing as a great loss to the Command, noting that the late officer was widely respected for her professionalism, integrity, and dedication to duty.

“The Lagos State Police Command deeply regrets to announce the passing of CSP Matilda Ngbaronye, DPO Festac Division, who died after undergoing surgery at Mayriamville Medical Centre, Bode Thomas, Surulere, Lagos State,” the statement read.

“She was a disciplined, diligent, and upright officer known for her humane approach to policing, which helped strengthen the relationship between the police and the community she served. At no time was she found wanting in the discharge of her responsibilities.”

The statement added that the Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, and all officers and men of the Command expressed deep sorrow over her demise. The CP also personally reached out to her husband and elder brother, a priest, to convey condolences and offer support to the family.

“The Command commiserates with her family and aged mother on this irreparable loss. Burial arrangements will be announced in due course,” the statement added.

Ngbaronye was widely admired for her leadership and professionalism within the Lagos Police Command.

May her soul rest in peace.
