MTN to Shut 101 Sites for Network Maintenance

MTN Nigeria has announced a planned network maintenance exercise scheduled for Saturday, October 25, 2025, which will temporarily affect connectivity in parts of Adamawa, Borno, and Kano States.

According to the telecom company, the maintenance will take place between 6:00 a.m. and 8:00 a.m., impacting 101 network sites across 15 Local Government Areas within the affected states.

MTN explained that the two-hour activity is part of its ongoing efforts to enhance service reliability and strengthen fibre infrastructure across northern Nigeria. The exercise will involve a fibre cutover on a newly relocated cable segment between AFCOT and Bawo Village, replacing previously damaged spans and reducing multiple joints that have affected optical performance and overall network stability.

Affected Areas

The maintenance will affect services in the following areas:

• Kano State: Nasarawa LGA
• Adamawa State: Girei, Song, Mubi North, Hong, Gombi, Fufore, Mubi South, Madagali, Michika, Maiha, Chibok, and Yola North
• Borno State: Askira/Uba and Shani

During the maintenance window, 2G, 3G, 4G, and enterprise connections will be temporarily unavailable due to the linear and unprotected configuration of the fibre route.

MTN stated that this exercise builds on an earlier network restoration project completed in August 2025 along the same AFCOT–Bawo route. The upcoming phase, it added, represents a comprehensive upgrade aimed at resolving recurring faults and ensuring more stable, long-term connectivity for customers in the region.

The company apologized for the temporary disruption and thanked customers for their patience.

“MTN regrets any inconvenience this may cause and appreciates customers’ understanding,” the statement read.
