President Emmanuel Macron has cautioned that the expanding confrontation involving the United States, Israel and Iran poses a serious threat to global stability, urging an immediate de-escalation.
In a message posted on his official X account, the French leader stated: “The outbreak of war between the United States, Israel, and Iran carries grave consequences for international peace and security.”
Macron said Paris had activated measures aimed at safeguarding French territory and nationals, particularly those residing or operating in the Middle East. He stressed that the French government was closely monitoring developments as tensions intensified.
“At this decisive moment, every measure is being taken to ensure the security of our national territory, our citizens, and our interests in the Middle East.
“France also stands ready to deploy the necessary resources to protect its closest partners, should they request it.”
The French president characterised the current escalation as perilous and called for restraint from all parties. “The ongoing escalation is dangerous for all. It must stop,” Macron stated.
He appealed directly to Tehran to resume diplomatic engagement, arguing that Iran’s leadership must recognise the necessity of credible negotiations aimed at ending its nuclear and missile programmes, as well as activities he said contribute to instability across the region. He maintained that renewed dialogue remains essential to preserving regional security.
Macron also addressed the situation of the Iranian population, asserting that citizens should be free to determine their political future. He criticised Iran’s Islamic leadership, contending that its record of violence has undermined its legitimacy and that authority should return to the people without delay.
As part of France’s diplomatic response, Macron disclosed that Paris has requested an emergency session of the United Nations Security Council to deliberate on the crisis. He added that he remains in continuous consultation with European counterparts and leaders across the Middle East as efforts continue to contain the conflict.
