The Anambra State Government has warned that pupils who fail to attend school on Mondays risk suspension for one week, as authorities intensify efforts to enforce full academic attendance across the state.
The Commissioner for Education, Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, issued the warning while meeting with the management of Mount Olive Schools and Spring Field Academy, both located in the Government Reserved Area of Onitsha.
She explained that the directive followed instructions from Governor Chukwuma Soludo, adding that the affected schools were summoned to provide explanations regarding compliance with the government’s order that academic activities must hold on Mondays.
According to the commissioner, the meeting sought clarification on why some pupils were still absent from classes on Mondays despite the state’s policy mandating normal school operations at the start of the week.
During the session, representatives of Mount Olive Schools told officials that attendance levels had improved compared with previous weeks. In contrast, the management of Spring Field Academy said many parents remained reluctant to send their children to school on Mondays.
