Thousands of commuters in Kaduna State have begun using a free compressed natural gas (CNG) bus service introduced by the state government to ease transportation costs.
Prime 9ja Online reports that the initiative aims to cushion the impact of rising petrol prices, which have significantly increased travel expenses for residents.
Passengers who spoke to Arise News said the service has helped them manage daily transportation costs, particularly for those commuting between suburbs and the city centre.
One commuter said: “Thank the government for providing such because without it would will be telling a different story at the moment.”
Another resident explained that the initiative has reduced the financial burden of commuting.
“Since last year in November, I've been entering the bus. Honestly, it has been an help to us. Most especially we staying around Maraba area from my side to this place. Roughly a day, we spend more than 2,000 plus. But with the help of this boss, I spent nothing for now.”
Officials say the programme forms part of efforts to encourage the adoption of alternative energy sources for transportation while providing relief to residents affected by fuel price increases.
