Soludo Begins Second Term in Anambra

Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, on Tuesday took the oath of office for a second term alongside his deputy, Dr Onyekachukwu Gilbert Ibezim, following their re-election in the state’s off-cycle governorship election.

The swearing-in ceremony took place at the recently refurbished Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka, drawing political leaders, government officials and other dignitaries from across the country.

Vice President Kashim Shettima attended the event, alongside former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan, among other prominent guests who witnessed the formal commencement of the new administration.

The Chief Judge of Anambra State, Justice Onochie Anyachebelu, administered both the oath of allegiance and the oath of office to Soludo and his deputy at approximately 11:05 a.m., officially inaugurating them for another four-year tenure.

Family members and spouses of the governor and deputy governor accompanied the pair during the ceremony, which marked the formal continuation of their leadership under the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

Soludo secured re-election during the November 8, 2025 governorship poll in Anambra State, an off-cycle election conducted in line with the state’s electoral timetable.

Activities marking the transition into the new term had begun earlier in the week. The inauguration programme opened on Sunday, March 15, 2026, with an interdenominational church service held at the International Convention Centre in Awka.

The service signalled the close of the administration’s first four-year term and featured prayers for the success of the incoming tenure.

Tuesday’s ceremony formally concluded the transition process and marked the beginning of Soludo’s second term in office as governor of Anambra State.
