The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State plans to mobilise more than 500,000 women for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election campaign, combining outreach through community associations with awareness about collecting Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).
Seun Bosede Osamaye, chairperson of the Women Mobilisation Sub-Committee of the party’s state Presidential Campaign Council, said the programme would cover all 18 local government areas. She linked the committee’s objective to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s broader target of securing one million votes for Tinubu in 2027.
Osamaye discussed the proposal at a meeting in Akure with the council’s director-general, Victor Olabimtan, according to The Hope’s account of the engagement.
Voter-card collection also featured in the party’s organising plans. State APC chairman Kolawole Babatunde asked ward chairpersons, polling-unit leaders and other executives to make PVC awareness a priority during meetings and subsequent contact with residents.
The party scheduled ward and unit meetings across Ondo’s 203 wards from Friday, 23 October. Babatunde said those gatherings would allow officials to engage members, discuss local party organisation and encourage eligible voters to collect their cards.
He argued that the governor’s electoral target required detailed preparation and cooperation throughout the party’s structures. In his assessment, work at polling units and wards would determine how effectively the APC translated its statewide plans into electoral participation.
Babatunde consequently urged officials across the 18 local government areas to coordinate their activities and sustain engagement beyond individual meetings.
For the women’s committee, Osamaye outlined an approach built around contact with residents in markets, homes and communities. She said women leaders, traders’ associations, artisans and professional organisations would provide channels for discussing the campaign and reaching eligible voters.
She maintained that women’s participation could influence the presidential election and said the committee would work with Aiyedatiwa and other APC leaders to expand support for Tinubu.
Olabimtan also stressed cooperation among campaign officials and party stakeholders. He said mobilisation needed to connect the state leadership with local government, ward and polling-unit organisations.
During the engagement, Osamaye announced Jumoke Aborode’s appointment as the sub-committee’s treasurer. Other participants included the APC’s state woman leader and the sub-committee’s co-chairperson, Iji Aiyeola, alongside its secretary, Adeola Finch.
The women’s programme forms part of the party’s wider presidential campaign arrangements in Ondo. In an announcement reported on 5 October, the APC said it had constituted a 228-member campaign council and nominated Aiyedatiwa as chairman.
That announcement named Olabimtan as director-general and said the council would organise support for Tinubu and other APC candidates. Its membership brought together serving and former officeholders, party officials, women and youth leaders, and community representatives.
Tinubu received 369,924 votes in Ondo during the 2023 presidential election, while Peoples Democratic Party candidate Atiku Abubakar polled 115,463, according to Channels Television’s report of the declared results.
