Police probe Ibadan boxer’s killing

Police in Oyo State are investigating the fatal stabbing of an amateur boxer identified as Kehinde, known as KBlaq, at Olodo Garage in Ibadan.

The command’s spokesperson, Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed the incident on Monday, 2 November, and said an investigation was under way. Reports place the stabbing on Sunday, 1 November.

Kehinde reportedly sustained a wound to the neck. Accounts of the events preceding his death differ, with one report linking the incident to a transport fare disagreement and another carrying claims that the stabbing followed an earlier fight.

The Nigerian Tribune cited unnamed eyewitnesses who attributed the attack to a commercial motorcycle operator following a dispute about payment.

According to that account, an argument over the agreed fare developed into a physical confrontation before the rider allegedly attacked the victim with a sharp object. The newspaper described the deceased as 25 years old but did not publish his name. It placed the incident in the Olodo Garage area of Lagelu Local Government Area.

A Punch report carried a different account drawn from social media posts. Those accounts alleged that Kehinde had not participated in the initial fight and that the person who stabbed him appeared after the confrontation had ended.

The posts described the weapon as a broken bottle and alleged that the attacker had also been absent from the earlier dispute. The police response quoted in the reports did not address these differing accounts or establish the motive for the stabbing.

The killing also reportedly disrupted commercial activity around Olodo Garage. Tribune reported unrest in the area and said businesses stopped operating following the incident.

A source quoted by the newspaper said commercial motorcyclists withdrew their services because they feared retaliatory attacks. The withdrawal reportedly left residents struggling to find transport. The report did not establish how many operators stopped working or how long the disruption lasted.

News of Kehinde’s death prompted tributes and demands for justice from social media users who said they knew him. Several questioned the circumstances of the attack and urged the authorities to establish what happened.

One user, writing as @Pelumifundz, described Kehinde as the younger brother of a friend and said he was a twin. The user remembered him as a gentle person and called for justice over his death.
