The police in Anambra State have arrested one Chukwudi Ndubuisi, alias Man of God, for allegedly defiling a 12-year-old girl.
The incident happened at Ekpunegbu village in the Nnewi Local Government Area of the state.
The suspect, who claimed to be an evangelist, a source told our correspondent, was known in his locality as Man of God.
“Everybody here in Nnewi call him Man of God. We are surprised to hear this rape story about him,” the source stated.
The suspect allegedly lured the victim, said to be his neighbour’s daughter, to his room, where he defiled her.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Haruna Mohammed, said Ndubuisi had confessed to the crime.
He said, “Police operatives attached to the Nnewi Division arrested one Chukwudi Ndubuisi, 38, of Ekpunegbu village in the Nnewi LGA of Anambra State.
“The suspect, who claimed to be an evangelist, allegedly lured his neighbour’s daughter, a 12-year-old girl, and had unlawful carnal knowledge with her.
“Police detectives took the victim to hospital for medical examination, where penetration and laceration of her hymen were confirmed by a medical doctor.
“The suspect has voluntarily confessed to the crime and the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for discreet investigation as directed by the Commissioner of Police, John Abang.”
Mohammed said the suspect would be prosecuted as soon as investigation was concluded.
