Mr Usman Baba, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), praised security personnel and the electorate on Sunday for the smooth conduct of Saturday's governorship election in Osun State.

CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer, stated this in an Abuja statement.

According to NAN, the IGP praised the large deployment of police officers, specialized units, and other human and operational assets, including three helicopters and two Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) for aerial monitoring.

He stated that among the operational assets deployed for the election were four adequately manned gunboats for riverine areas and Armored Personnel Carriers (APCs).

Baba stated that the deployment across the state's three senatorial districts was to ensure quick responses to specific pockets of electoral difficulties.

He also praised the coordinated efforts of various security services that contributed to the election's smooth conduct.

The police chief also praised the electorate and other election players for their roles in maintaining decorum and cooperating with law enforcement officials.

He stated that the professionalism demonstrated by troops deployed for the election contributed to the process's success.

Baba promised that the force would continue to improve its security mandate in the run-up to the general elections in 2023.

According to PRIME9JAONLINEMEDIA earlier, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) named Sen. Ademola Adeleke the winner of the governorship race in Osun on Saturday.

Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, the INEC Returning Officer, announced the results, saying Adeleke received 403,371 votes, beating his closest challenger, Gov. Gboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who received 375,027 votes.
