The Independent National Electoral Commission headquarters was set on fire at Iyana Mortuary ll in Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State, early on Thursday.
According to eyewitness reports, a group of roughly eight thugs stormed the outer fence, burst inside, and set the INEC building on fire from behind.
It was learned that the thugs entered the building, soaked bread in gasoline, and hurled the mixture into the building at various angles to light up the INEC office.
After a security guard at the site placed a distress call, the police from the Ibara division reportedly mobilised investigators to the area and later got in touch with members of the state's fire department, who hurried to the scene to put out the fire.
When contacted, the Ogun INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, Niyi Ijalaye
confirmed the incident, describing it as shocking.
